The Holy Spirit desires to have a personal relationship with each one of us. Jesus said in John 14:16, “I will ask the Father and he will send you another helper...to be with you and will be IN you.” In verse 18 he says, “I will come to you!” Jesus lives in us and through us by his Spirit forever.

Even though we refer to the Holy Spirit as a person, he does not appear in human form. He is a spirit, who is actively involved in us and through us.

He actually did become visible a couple of times in the New Testament. In John 1, we read that the Holy Spirit descended from heaven as a dove that rested on Jesus. In Acts 2, the Holy Spirit came as a rushing, mighty wind and then as tongues of fire that descended on each of Jesus’ disciples that were gathered in the upper room.

He comes to us individually in various expressions...as comforter, counselor, confidant, and friend. He is one who walks and talks with us and comes along side us to support and sustain us in times of difficulty and rejoice with us in times of joy.

He also is our teacher. Jesus said, “When He, the Spirit of truth is come, He will teach you all things.” He told us he would never leave us but would abide with us forever. What a faithful friend we have in the Holy Spirit.
