Unto Us a Son is Given

Over the ages it has been a tradition for the family inheritance and title to pass from father to firstborn son.  Even today, there is the hope that the son will follow in his father’s footsteps; if not vocationally, at least spiritually, to pick up the mantle and continue to advance the Kingdom of God.

God the Father passed all the authority, wealth, and reign of his Kingdom to his only Son.  He did not withhold anything from him.  Jesus was the manifestation of his Father—“the brightness of his Glory, the express image of his person.”  Like Father, like son.  Jesus told his disciples, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father.”

Then, to continue the line,  Jesus passed this inheritance to his “sons”—to you and me.  He came as a man, and through his life and death he gave birth to his heirs, ”bringing many sons to glory!”  In his prayer for us he declared, “The glory you have given me, I have given them.”  He has qualified us to become his sons and heirs, to share in the glorious inheritance of his heavenly Kingdom.  This was God’s plan from the beginning, to extend his dominion through his firstborn son, and to all succeeding generations.

With the birth of Christ came the fullness of the heavenly family rights and privileges.  He is ours, and they are ours, by inheritance from our Father.  Unto us a Son is given!
