It's Time to Arise

on Sunday 8, November 2009

“ARISE, my people!  Let your light shine for all the nations to see. For the glory of the Lord is streaming from you!”  Isaiah 60:1 (LB)

This entire chapter is a thrilling picture of what the Lord desires to do for his people—radiant glory, abundant prosperity & provision, and a place of salvation and refuge for the nations of the earth.  “The time will come when all the earth is filled, as the waters fill the sea, with an awareness of the glory of the Lord.” (Hab. 2:14)  There are great days ahead!

However strong our faith is to believe for such a time, we cannot just sit and wait for God’s glory to somehow miraculously descend on us.  The release of God’s glory in the earth will come THROUGH us, His church, and thus the command to arise.

There are many times in scripture when God says that He will arise; to save, to help, to judge his enemies.  But there are also times when he implores his people to arise, and none more beautifully portrayed than his urgent words of love recorded in Song of Solomon 2:10:  “Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away.  See the winter is past, and rain is over and gone.”

The picture here is of one who has been hiding and hunkered down to wait out the winter storms.  The church, and perhaps even you, have been in such a position.  But the voice of God is being heard again, as he calls to us, “Arise my love, allow my Glory to once again be seen on you and flow through you.  It’s time to arise.”
