Unto Us a Child is Born

on Sunday 6, December 2009

There is nothing sweeter or more miraculous than the birth of a new baby.  It is God’s plan to perpetuate the generations.  He has built this into all of nature, this wonderful ability to reproduce life.

Yet there were times recorded in Scripture where this natural process was interrupted, in spite of God’s command to “be fruitful and multiply.”  We read of Sarah, Hannah, Rachel and even Ruth, and their grief and frustration over their personal barrenness.  Yet their stories were recorded to give us hope.  God, the creator of life, granted each one of them life.

There is no story so sad, however, as the condition of mankind at the birth of Christ – barren, without hope and without God.  But God heard their cry: “The Lord looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth to hear the groans of the prisoner and to release those condemned to death!” (Ps. 102:20)  To these the prophet cries out, “Comfort ye, comfort ye my people…prepare the way of the Lord.”

It is no wonder the heavens split open to announce the glorious birth of the Christ.  God had granted life to the earth in the form of a newborn baby.  His initial design still was in place.  He confirmed his Word and stretched out his hand of hope.  This season let your faith reach out to receive this hope—God’s miraculous intervention into your barrenness.  He has come to give LIFE!
