Use What You Have First

“The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you…Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance.” Matthew 13:11-12

Smith Wigglesworth once said, “Vision comes to those who are full of God.”  In other words, the more we have of God, the more we are given.  It’s much like the mustard seed.  Though it is the smallest of all seeds, it has within it the potential to be one of the largest garden plants—a tree big enough for the birds to lodge in its branches—provided it is watered and tended.

Have you ever noticed that faith can grow like this?  When our faith is rewarded by fulfillment, we take another step in our growth. And to him who has faith, more is given.  Jesus once told a parable of the talents.  Each individual was given a measure to use.  The one who received five doubled it to ten, and likewise, the one who received two doubled it to four.  Judgment came to the one who buried what he was given.

Whether it’s faith or gifts of the Holy Spirit, or vision and dreams for our future, they will not grow unless we first use what we have already been given.  First, we must allow ourselves to be filled with God. Then the Holy Spirit can use what we have in faith, to increase and believe for the impossible – or courage to take the necessary steps to see our vision fulfilled.  God is there, ready to add to what he has given if we will only use it.
